On September 13th, the "2016-2017 China Internet of Things Development Annual Report" was released in Wuxi. According to the "Annual Report", as of April 2017, 100% of the sub-provincial cities in China and 87% of the cities above the prefecture level, with a total of more than 500 cities, have clearly proposed or are building smart cities.
According to the Sixth (2016) China Smart City Development Level Assessment Report, the top ten cities in China's smart city development level in 2016 are all eastern cities. Thanks to the development of government management and services, online medical care, education services, and big data traffic management, the second and third echelon cities have accelerated their catch-up, and the gap with the first echelon is shrinking. A number of “Internet +” social service new cities such as Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing and Wuhan have emerged as the benchmark for the construction of new smart cities in China.
According to statistics, in 2016, the output value of enterprises engaged in smart city industry in China accounted for 5.6% of GDP in that year, which is equivalent to the proportion of real estate (6%). From the perspective of corporate revenue, there is still a gap compared with the United States. Among the Fortune 500 companies in the United States, about 14 are engaged in the construction of smart cities, with operating income of up to 1.048 trillion US dollars; China's smart city industry involves enterprise revenue of 309.6 billion US dollars, about one-third of US companies, and profits are for US companies. 1/9.
